The Magic of Sheet Pan Dinners

There’s a reason sheet pan recipes have become a culinary phenomenon: they simplify cooking without sacrificing flavor. As a huge fan of these one-pan wonders, I can attest to their incredible convenience. They are designed for ease, come together quickly with minimal prep, and—my absolute favorite part—the oven does nearly all the heavy lifting. This means less time scrubbing pots and pans, and more time enjoying delicious food with loved ones.

Beyond pizza, sheet pan cooking offers a world of possibilities for effortless meals. Why Sheet Pan Pizza Will Become Your Go-To

Pizza holds a special place in our hearts and on our dinner table. It’s a meal we enjoy at least once a week, often twice, simply by switching up the toppings to keep things fresh and exciting. When decision fatigue sets in, pizza is always our trusty fallback. That’s why I’m incredibly excited to share this amazing sheet pan pizza recipe with you today. It’s not just easy; it’s absolutely scrumptious, guaranteeing smiles all around.

One of the standout features of sheet pan pizza is its ability to feed a crowd without extra effort. The rectangular shape means more surface area for toppings and easier, more uniform slices. This makes it perfect for family gatherings, game nights, or simply ensuring there are enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The even heat distribution in the sheet pan also promotes a consistently cooked crust, crispy on the bottom and delightfully chewy in the middle.

Crafting Your Perfect Pizza Dough

This recipe includes instructions for making your pizza dough from scratch, and I highly recommend it for that fresh, authentic taste. Crafting your own dough can be a rewarding experience, yielding a superior texture and flavor that store-bought varieties often can’t match. However, if time is of the essence or you simply prefer convenience, pre-made pizza dough is a perfectly acceptable alternative. Many grocery stores offer excellent ready-to-use dough that will still result in a fantastic sheet pan pizza.

If you choose the homemade route, remember that patience is a key ingredient. Allow ample time for the dough to rise properly. This crucial step contributes to the light and airy texture of the crust. A warm, draft-free spot is ideal for rising, and covering the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap helps create the perfect environment for your yeast to work its magic. Dough that has properly risen will be significantly more flavorful and easier to work with, stretching smoothly to cover your sheet pan.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 teapoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water, warm (about 115°)
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup pizza sauce, homemade or jarred
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, or to taste
  • additional toppings, if desired

Instructions

  1. Add the yeast and sugar to one cup of warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix together flour and salt. Slowly add water mixture to the flour while mixing. Add in olive oil and continue stirring with a large spatula or dough hook on the stand mixer. Mix until a ball of dough forms and pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl (or just oil the bowl it’s been mixed in) and cover. Allow to rise in a warm place for about an hour – until doubled in size.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the toppings. Slice the veggies, cook any meat you are using, and set aside.
  5. Preheat oven to 450° F and line a 12×19” baking sheet with foil. Cover with cooking spray or olive oil.
  6. When the dough has doubled in size, place on the baking sheet and press to spread to even thickness. Push dough to cover the entire sheet.
  7. Spread a light, even layer of sauce over the dough. Top with cheese and other toppings. Sprinkle with seasonings if desired.
  8. Bake for 14- 18 minutes, or until cheese is melted and starting to brown and crust is browning. Serve warm.

Notes

We topped our pizza with fresh mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, and green peppers. But, you can customize your toppings. Additional ideas include: pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, shredded chicken, eggplant, bacon, meatballs, olives, ham, and pineapple.
